Hamburg defender Jerome Boateng confirms £10.46m Manchester City move
Former Hamburg man claims deal is sealed...
By Matt Monaghan
German international defender Jerome Boateng has confirmed he has agreed to join Manchester City for £10.46 million before the start of the World Cup.
The highly-rated Hamburg defender has been linked with a move to Eastlands for several months and is now set to put pen to paper on the deal. Comfortable at either right back or centre back, the ex-Hertha Berlin player will boost Roberto Mancini's ranks.
Speaking to Bild, Boateng said: "I am going to sign on (for City) before leaving for the World Cup and the deal will be completed.
"It has been decided that I am moving there."
Boateng will compete with Kolo Toure, Micah Richards and Joleon Lescott for a starting spot with the top-four challengers. He added to the German magazine that Mancini had been pivotal in securing his signature.
"He (Mancini) came with two representatives to Hamburg and we chatted for one or two hours," said Boateng.
"He convinced me to make the transfer. He believes that I will definitely need a few months to get settled in once in England, but that he sees so much potential in me that he will improve me.
"Even if many people say that I am going to struggle to make the breakthrough, I am confident that I will.
"I am not afraid of anybody."
