Barcelona president Joan Laporta still working on Cesc Fabregas deal
Barca man keen to ensure deal is good value for the club...
By Matt Monaghan
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed the Catalans will not break the bank to snatch Cesc Fabregas from Arsenal this summer.
The Gunners have slapped an £80 million price tag on their wantaway captain since he informed Arsene Wenger of his desire to move a fortnight ago. However, Barcelona are understood to only be prepared to offer £30m for their former youth team star.
Speaking to reporters today, Laporta thanked Fabregas for his desire to return to the Nou Camp outfit, but insisted they will be "prudent" in any approach.
"We are being prudent in the sense that we are not going to do things that are not logical," Laporta said.
"We have a player who has expressed his intention of coming to Barcelona.
"He (Fabregas) has said it and I want to thank him publicly for that decision."
With Fabregas' contract at the club expiring in 2015, Arsenal hold all the cards.
"We are working on it," said Laporta.
"We will try to achieve his signature and if we don't get there with time, at least we will have opened a path.
"The possibility is always there but the other part [Arsenal] has to defend their interests and perhaps has a different strategy.
"We are trying to find a halfway point for both sides to agree."
