Inter president Massimo Moratti admits defeat in aim to sign Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas and Liverpool's Steven Gerrard
The Nerazzurri supremo unlikely to enter bidding for midfielders...
By Adam Scime
Inter president Massimo Moratti has seemingly ruled out a move for Premier League stars Cesc Fabregas and Steven Gerrard.
Both midfielders have been linked on-and-off with the treble winners over the last few months, even though Arsenal playmaker Fabregas now appears close to sealing a move to Barcelona, while the Liverpool talisman — who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid — may well prefer to stay with his boyhood club.
"Fabregas and Gerrard? Everyone knows they are great players," Moratti said during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"But I don't think they are possible purchases for Inter, we'll see."
The future of a number of players at the club has been questioned, after an agreement was found to allow coach Jose Mourinho to join Real Madrid.
"It's fair to think in positive terms for next season, certainly we will try to keep important elements in tact," Moratti said.
"First, we don't want to undo the good work we have done, and second we must then find a coach that can defend the group and its personality," he said just a few hours before the deal had been struck.
"When you win you have the responsibility to continue doing so afterwards."
