Bacary Sagna urges Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to sign Dynamo Kiev defender Pape Diakhate this summer
Tottenham and Sunderland are also interested in the Senegal centre-back
By Anthony Sciarrino
Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna has advised Arsene Wenger to beat Tottenham Hotspur out for £10 million-rated Dynamo Kiev defender Pape Malickou Diakhate.
The Gunners have been scouting the Senegal centre-back for a couple of months during his time at French club St Etienne.
Diakhate impressed Arsenal enough to strongly consider making the Senegalese defender their first signing of the summer.
With Spurs and Sunderland also interested in making a move for the 25-year-old this summer, Sagna hopes that the Gunners sign Diakhate as he believes that Arsenal would be getting a top player.
“I don't know what the plan is for next year,” Sagna told the Daily Mail.
“We are all waiting to see what the manager does but Malickou he would be very welcome in our team.
“He is Senegalese like me and plays for the national team. He played for Nancy in France so I played against him a few times and he is very dangerous at set-pieces.
“I have met him a few times and he is a very good guy and a very good player.”
Diakhate has returned to Dynamo Kiev after a loan spell at St Etienne and with the futures of Sol Campbell and William Gallas unclear, Wenger will be looking to strengthen the Arsenal defence in the summer transfer window.
