Blackpool prepare for life in Premier League by revamping Bloomfield Road
It's going to be a busy summer by the seaside...
By James Daly
Blackpool's preparations for life in the Premier League have started long before manager Ian Holloway has begun to target new players - with plans to increase their stadium's capacity.
Chairman Karl Oyston revealed blueprints to revamp the East Stand and increase Bloomfield Road's total capacity from 12,555 to 16,000.
That's still way short of most Premier League stadiums, but brings the Seasiders a little further up to scrath as they prepare for their biggest season in years.
"We are working on the planning consent we have from 2001 for which all the land we require is already in our ownership," Oyston told reporters.
"There are no other issues other than me agreeing terms with the builders and the architects and saying get on with it.
"But we will be able to reveal more details later this week."
However Oyston added in the Blackpool Gazette that work would begin "as soon as is realistically possible" but whether the new stand is ready for the start of the new season remains in doubt.
Meanwhile a host of players have been handed one-year extensions on their deals after helping the club to a largely unexpected promotion.
Matt Gilks, David Vaughan, Mark Halstead, Ashley Eastham and Ishmel Demontagnac can relax during the summer, while Ben Burgess and Rob Edwards, are still in limbo.
Daniel Nardiello, Hameur Bouazza, Al Bangura, Danny Mitchley and Joe Martin have been released.
