Former Arsenal great Robert Pires has stated he may call time on his playing career after rejecting a move to the Philadelphia Union.

The Major League Soccer outfit had offered the ex-France international a contract after he was released by Villarreal this summer after a four-year spell. Previously, the 36-year old had lifted two Premier League titles and three FA Cups under Arsene Wenger's tutelage.

Speaking to L'Equipe, Pires insisted he was still eyeing a move to America but he will only join a team in a "beautiful town."

He said: “I do not want to be difficult, but left to take my family away, I’d rather do it in a beautiful city. Otherwise, I will put an end to my career."
