Gerard Pique fully expects Cesc Fabregas to join him at Barcelona this summer, with the Spanish champions thought to be readying a bid for the Arsenal captain.

Although Arsene Wenger is reluctant to sell his star player, Fabregas has reportedly already informed him of his desire to return to Barcelona, the club where he began his career.

Centre-back Pique made a similar move in 2008 when he returned to the Catalan club from Manchester United.

He has since gone on to excel in the heart of the Blaugrana's defence, winning the treble in his first season and picking up the league title again this year.

Now the defender believes that Fabregas will turn his back on the Premier League and become Barcelona’s second summer acquisition, after the arrival of David Villa.

"I had a similar situation at Manchester United," said Pique in The Daily Mirror.

"I am a Barcelona fan, I wanted to return and I am convinced that Cesc will come here.

"I am enjoying the best years of my life and my career here and I think that's why Cesc wants to come. He would fit in well. I found it impossible to resist a return to Barcelona. If he comes along with David Villa then we will have a team the envy of the world."

Although Barcelona are yet to make a formal approach for the Arsenal star, with Fabregas signalling his desire to return to Spain, it could just be a matter of time before we see him at the Nou Camp.

The only stumbling block could be Arsenal’s unwillingness to sell, with both Arsene Wenger and club chairman Peter Hill-Wood insisting Fabregas is not for sale.

What is certain though is that if Fabregas was to complete the move to Barcelona he would command a hefty transfer fee, with reports in the press claiming figures of anywhere between £30 million and £80 million.

Arsenal fans will be hoping the figure is nearer the latter if they are to lose their talismanic captain to the lure of his hometown club.

Pique has certainly had a good season and is rated as the best defender in Europe by the Castrol Rankings, coming in at No.8 overall.
