Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that back-up goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini has been handed a new contract, keeping him at the club until 2011.

The Italian goalkeeper’s season was curtailed after being involved in a road accident and it was not certain the stopper would be handed fresh terms.

He only made seven appearances last season and he is likely to remain Spurs’ second keeper, with the impressive Heurelho Gomes in front of him in the pecking order.

The 36-year-old has resumed training and will be working throughout the summer with goalkeeping coach Tony Parks to help him prepare for the 2010/11 season.

Wayne Diesel, Head of Medical Services, told the club’s official website: "We are delighted at how well Carlo has progressed.

"He has shown a great deal of self discipline and motivation to come back from this."
