Manchester United and Bulgaria striker Dimitar Berbatov has announced his retirement from international football.
The forward, who has captained his country for the last three years, feels that the time has come to call time on an international career he has appeared to be enjoying less and less in recent times.
Berbatov has often been the subject of criticism for his performances with the national side and there has been much speculation in the Bulgarian media that he was set to quit.
"I am withdrawing from the Bulgarian national team, it was a difficult decision but I made it," the United star told reporters.
"Sometimes you have to make the difficult ones. I though about it enough, but everything has a beginning and an end and that is today."
