Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed that he will continue to ply his trade at the west London club next season.

The Cottagers' sensational Europa League run all the way to the final had prompted speculation that the gaffer may move on to a bigger club, possibly Liverpool - where Rafael Benitez's future remains uncertain.

However, the former Inter boss insists that he has never considered leaving Fulham at any point during his fruitful tenure.

"I have never given my future a moment's thought," Hodgson told the press. "I have been committed all the time I have been with the club.

"I still have a contract and, as far as I know, this is where I shall be."

Dwelling on the loss in the final of the Europa League, Hodgson maintained that the defeat to Atletico Madrid overshadows all that the Cottagers have achieved this season.

"I couldn't in my wildest dreams imagine we would get here when we started," he said. "But unfortunately that doesn't help.

"Having been here and acquitted ourselves so well, you feel we could have taken a further step.

"It doesn't matter how much comfort I try to find, it is difficult to find joy or enthusiasm because a great performance has gone unrewarded."

Meanwhile, Fulham midfielder Dickson Etuhu has expressed the hoped that the gaffer will not leave the club following the heartbreaking defeat in the final.

"I want him to stay but in football you can't control what happens and to be honest we are not bothered about that at the moment. The gaffer is a great manager and he has done so much for every player, he improved us all, got us playing great football and he got us to the final," Etuhu told Sky Sports News.

"I don't know many better managers than him at the moment, and it would be hard to take [if he were to leave], but I hope he stays.

"He never changes the way we play, we stick to how we train - everyone knows their job - which we practice every day and every week, it is almost perfect, and people can see that when we play, and that is down to the manager. The players have to go out and perform and it has been great."

The Nigerian maintained that although it was disappointing to lose the final, the players would focus on the plusses and be wiser for the experience.

"But the message is to take the positives out of the game, out of the journey, and just enjoy the experience."
