Phil Jagielka does not look happy as Everton succumb to another loss.
Everton defender Phil Jagielka is hoping to be a part of the England squad that will travel to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The former Sheffield United player had been sidelined since succumbing to an anterior cruciate ligament injury towards the end of last season, and was only able to make a return this February.

He has since managed to start consistently for the Toffees, and is hoping that his performances will pave the way for a return to the national squad for the showpiece event.

"You dream about playing for your country in the World Cup and if I get the opportunity to travel with the squad, especially after the previous 10 months, it would be amazing," Jagielka told the press.

"If I am lucky enough to go I'll be buzzing - but, if not, I'll still be smiling, I'll still be putting my shirt on supporting the boys.

"There will be plenty of boys to support anyway, as far as club lads go.

"I won't support them all for too long, but I will at least at the group stages. It will be fantastic."

The 27-year-old is yet to recover completely from his injury, but believes that he will be as fit as a fiddle in due course.

"It is okay, not amazing," he said of his knee. "I've been told it will still take a little while for it to feel as good as it should do but that is more than good enough.

"I'll keep working on it and working on it and hopefully it will get back to the strength it was."
