Johan Cruyff: Marco van Basten is the right man for Milan; Inter boss Jose Mourinho is the master of anti-football

And Italy stand no chance at the World Cup…

Dutch legend Johan Cruyff has backed compatriot Marco van Basten for the Milan coaching job.

Leonardo is expected to quit the San Siro at the end of the season and Van Basten has emerged as one of the early candidates to take over.

“That would be a perfect choice,” Cruyff told La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper.

“Marco has played at the highest level, he is smart and knows Milan. On top of that, he was a champion and would know how to get respect.”

Jose Mourinho has steered Inter to their first Champions League final for 38 years, but Cruyff is far from impressed with the Portuguese.

“I don’t like him, I don’t like the way he sees football,” he explained.

“Mourinho has given nothing to his team. He has not changed Inter’s mentality.

“They went through at the Camp Nou without playing football. Mourinho is only focused on results, but nowadays you have a duty to play enjoyable football.”

Italy will travel to the World Cup finals in South Africa this summer as reigning champions, but Cruyff thinks the Azzurri are bound to fail.

“There is no entertainment in Italian football,” he said.

“I hope that quality football will prevail, so I am tipping Spain to win.”

No trip to South Africa is complete without a visit to its most beautiful and sunniest city. Durban offers much more than sandy beaches, safaris, casinos and the World Cup, for information on what to do and see, please click here.
