Cash-strapped Eagles escape relegation on dramatic day...

Sheffield Wednesday have been relegated to League One after drawing 2-2 with Crystal Palace at Hillsborough.

Despite an 87th minute equaliser from Darren Purse, Alan Irvine's side could not find a winner to guarantee survival.

Alan Lee gave Palace an early lead when he headed home a Darren Ambrose corner but Wednesday equalised on the stroke of half-time through Leon Clark.

However, Ambrose scored on 63 minutes to restore Palace's advantage before Purse's late goal.

It means that Palace, who are in administration, finish fourth from bottom, two points clear of the Owls.

And although their Championship status is secured, the club have debts of £30 million and only have enough funds to survive until the end of June.

Elsewhere, Blackpool secured a play-off spot after drawing 1-1 at home to Bristol City.

Swansea, needing a victory to finish above Ian Holloway's side, could only manage a 0-0 draw at home to Doncaster Rovers, leaving the Welsh side two points adrift.

It means Nottingham Forest face Blackpool and Cardiff play Leicester in the play-offs next week.
