A furious David Moyes did not attend the post-match press conference after seeing Phil Jagielka's header dubiously denied by referee Howard Webb, as Everton slipped out of contention for European football next season with a 0-0 draw against Stoke.

The Scotsman certainly had plenty to say to the fourth official after Webb ruled out Jagielka's 72nd-minute header from Mikel Arteta's corner, apparently for Victor Anichebe's offside position.

Only Jagielka and goalkeeper Asmir Begovic touched the ball between Arteta's boot and the back of the net, but the officials found reason to cancel out the strike, leaving Everton bemused and angry.

According to ITV, Steve Round, Moyes's assistant said: "We thought it was a perfectly good goal.

"We cannot understand why it was disallowed.

"The officials made the decision and we have to respect that.

"He [Anichebe] is in an offside position but is he interfering, I don't know. We had taken a corner and it has been headed straight in the net."

The draw leaves Everton too far adrift to prolong their late charge for a chance of European football next season at the end of an injury-riddled campaign.
