By Andrew Headspeath
Detectives are currently investigating claims that Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini assaulted a 20 year-old woman at a nightclub in London.
The 22-year-old Everton and Belgian midfielder faces allegations he struck the woman in the early hours of Sunday in Jet Black - a fashionable night-spot in London's West End.
The victim complained of a head injury and was taken to hospital for precautionary measures.
Fellaini, well-known for his distinctive afro hair, is recovering from an ankle injury he sustained during the derby match against Liverpool at Anfield in February.
Sources close to the player claim he strenuously denies any wrong doing and that he expects the police inquiry to soon be dropped.
An Everton spokesman added the club is aware of the incident but declined to comment further.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Police received a call from the ambulance service at about 4am on Sunday."
"There was a report of someone assaulted and with a head injury at a nightclub in West Central Street.
"Officers attended the scene and a 20-year-old female victim was found with no visible injuries but was taken to a central London hospital as a precaution.
"The alleged suspect had left the scene prior to police arrival. Officers from Camden CID investigate. There have been no arrests."
Signed from Standard Liege in 2008 for a club recored £15 million, Fellaini has made 62 appearances for Everton, scoring 12 goals.Become a fan of Goal.com UK's Facebook fan page for all the latest news and insight into everything related to the beautiful game!
