Veteran extends Old Trafford stay...

Manchester United have confirmed that Paul Scholes has signed a new contract that should see him stay at Old Trafford until June 2011.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was very pleased that the 35-year-old former England star had decided to continue for another season at the club.

"We are delighted Paul is staying on for another year," the Scot told United's official website.

"His form this year indicates his ability and his enjoyment of the game are as strong as ever, that’s every reason to stay on.

"There was talk about him wanting to retire, but when you see his enjoyment in training and playing you can see how much he wants to carry on."

Scholes himself echoed his manager's delight, adding: "I am pleased to have signed for another year. I am feeling good and enjoying my football.

"I would like to thank the boss, the coaching staff and also the fans for their continued support."

Scholes is currently ranked No.56 overall in the Castrol Rankings - the highest of any Manchester United midfielder. Next best is Antonio Valencia, at No.69.
