Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher is determined that the Reds will keep fighting to qualify for next season's Champions League despite the disappointment of a goalless draw at home to Fulham at the weekend.

The Europa League now looks to be the Reds' only chance of success this season, but the veteran defender is not prepared to throw in the towel in the battle for fourth place just yet.

"Until we are certainly out of it we will have to keep going for the top four," he told reporters after Sunday's game at Anfield.

"But we have made it a lot more difficult for ourselves and nobody will be expecting top four from us.

"We will see where we go. It might put more pressure on the teams expecting top four and maybe that might work in our favour."

Carragher would also relish being able to finish a frustrating campaign on a high by claiming some silverware in the shape of the Europa League, with the Reds reaching the last four of the competition last week.

"We had two targets, top four and Europa League. Top four is looking a bit difficult now but the Europa League is all to play for," the 32-year-old added.

"If we could finish with a trophy, it has been a tough season, but that would finish it nicely for us."
