Italian FA director Antonio Valentini has said they are working closely alongside the government and home office in relation to Italy's security at the World Cup following terrorism threats.

On Thursday a report from CBS claimed Al-Qaeda were plotting to strike during World Cup matches, including games involving Italy and other nations.

And the Italian authorities are ready to take significant action in response to the reports.

"We have been warned officially this morning [Friday] by Roberto Massucci, designator from the home office who is in charge of our security," Valentini told La Repubblica.

"The home office is taking care of us in relation to this, I cannot say more, but we are in good hands."
