Rafael Benitez may tweak Liverpool formation against Benfica

Absences at left-back could mean a 3-5-2...

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has revealed that he is toying with the idea of playing three central defenders in the Europa League quarter-final second leg tie against Benfica at Anfield on Thursday night.

Left-back Emiliano Insua is suspended with Fabio Aurelio also out injured. Whilst the likes of Jamie Carragher, Glen Johnson or Daniel Agger could fill in there, Benitez could also change system.

"We were practising today with three defenders and with different players in different positions, so we will see how we'll manage tomorrow," he told his club's official website.

Benitez is also hoping that a passionate home support at Anfield can give his team the edge in a tie in which they trail 2-1 from the first leg in Portugal.

"The fans know backing the team is the biggest way to get a result, so they will be behind the players."
