Monaco intend to keep Eidur Gudjohnsen despite interest from Tottenham to keep him
Icelandic striker is keen to make Spurs loan permanent
By Anthony Sciarrino
Striker Eidur Gudjohnsen’s loan spell with the Tottenham Hotspur is likely not to continue after Monaco expressed no interest in letting the Icelandic international leave.
The former Chelsea and Barcelona attacker came to White Hart Lane in January to finish out the season in the Premier League, but has expressed interest in joining Spurs on a permanent basis.
Gudjohnsen has suggested that there was a deal in place that would have him staying at Tottenham but Monaco has announced that they intend to keep the striker in France.
“We are pleased that Eidur is enjoying his time in England but we expect him to come back, we want him to,” A spokesman for the Ligue 1 club told the Daily Mail.
“Monaco are not interested in negotiations for a permanent move and will ignore any bids. He has a future here.”
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has praised Gudjohnsen’s play during the loan spell but will face a fight to keep him at White Hart Lane.
