Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti left Ewood Park angry after watching his side throw away a lead against Blackburn Rovers, which sees the Italian’s side fall behind league leaders Manchester United.

The former Milan coach was unhappy at his side’s lack of fight against the mid-table team.

“It was a difficult game because there was a lot of fight on the pitch, we did well in the first half in which we deserved to have the lead," he told Sky Sports.

"In the second half it was more difficult to play football - we tried to play football.

"We lost some confidence in the second half; they played more long balls and won more headers, so it was more difficult for us. But we tried, we had a good chance but we were unlucky.”

Ancelotti’s side now go into a crucial game with the seemingly doomed Portsmouth on Wednesday night knowing that three points is a must in order to stay in contact with Manchester United and Arsenal.

Ancelotti added: “We needed to win the game today, now we need to look to Wednesday and getting three points.”

“I think that it is more difficult now, but I still think that we can do it.”
