Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce says Phil Jones can be new John Terry
'Big Sam' believes young defender is destined for the top...
By Matthew Harold
The main cause of Allardyce’s delight was the performance of young defender Phil Jones, who was making his debut.
“We think he has the look of John Terry in his body language, it was a great day for the lad and i think he’s got a bright future ahead of him and he has to be pleased with that performance today,” Allardyce told Sky Sports.
“I was really pleased with the performance in the second half, I really think we deserved the draw, it was a great goal from Diouf, a header at the far post.
"We had to tell our wide men to get at their full backs. We were sitting to deep and letting them come to us. We were leaving Kalinic isolated up front, so we asked the wide men to push on to their full backs a little bit more.
"We got the ball moving and we passed the ball about a little bit better. We got a quality goal and we were unlucky not to have scored early, when they cleared the long throw off the line.”
With his side one goal down, Allardyce took off Nikola Kalinic and replaced him with Jason Roberts, which left the fans angry, as they booed the decision made by their manager.
“Everybody thinks they can do my job better than me, they always feel you’ve got to throw caution to the wind and that’s the way supporters are," Allardyce said of the decision.
"Against a team like Chelsea, with their three in midfield, if you go a leave yourself with two, you’ll probably lose two or three, one.
