Manchester United chief executive David Gill is "excited" that the Red Devils have been drawn against German giants Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The United chief claims that the tie will bring back fond memories of winning the trophy in 1999.

"It's very exciting to face Bayern Munich again," he told reporters at the draw in Nyon today.

"We have good memories of the heroic final against Bayern in the late '90s.

"Were we afraid of Barcelona? No - all the teams remaining in the competition have great players, including Bayern."

United will also head into the tie in positive mood, according to Gill, who feels that with Wayne Rooney in the team they can beat anyone.

Gill was also cheered by the fact that Owen Hargreaves made a return to competitive football on Thursday evening when he played for United's reserve side.

"But we're confident. Wayne Rooney is one of the best around at the moment and it's great to see him enjoying his football," he added.

"It's nice to have Owen Hargreaves nearing fitness again and we're hopeful that he'll get first-team action again this term."
