Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner: I can be one of the world's best strikers
Famously confident Dane aims to back up words with actions...
By Alex Dimond
The young striker has gained a reputation for arrogance in the past, notably for suggesting he would become the best forward on earth, but says that is just part of who he is.
“I've always been like this. Also off the pitch," Bendtner told Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet.
“I believe in myself, as well as I can. I am who I am and it’s up to the others to decide whether they like me or not."
The 22-year-old accepts words mean far less than actions, but believes it is only matter of time before his confident statements are fully vindicated.
“It's easy to talk. You must also prove it. And so I say no more than what I know will happen," he said.
”If I look honestly at myself, I see that I do not have a poor technique, not a bad shot and not a bad positional ability than many others around.
“So I take it easy, because in the end I will sit back with a big smile when I have reached my big goal.”
Far from reaching his predictions of world-beating form, Bendtner has had an erratic season so far - no better demonstrated than last week, where he followed an embarrassing game against Burnley with a hat-trick in Champions League action against Porto - but believes that can be easily explained.
”It should have been here this season, but then I'm suddenly in an unfamiliar position, had a car accident [which he was described as "lucky" to survive relatively unscathed] and missed much of the season with injuries," he said.
”Now I play the last 20 matches. So now my goal has been postponed until next year. But it can start at the World Cup.”

For Milan progression to next round seems inevitable after they thumped Arsenal 4-0 at the San Siro.
However things are very different for Zenith, and despite their win you may actually make Benfica favourites given they scored two away goals in Russia.
Here's the thoughts of Benfica coach Jorge Jesus who felt his side deserved a point from the game
"They were the better team on the night and that's the story of the day.
"We have to keep fighting, pick ourselves up, get the confidence back and challenge in the other competitions and in the second leg of this tie too.
"They punished us on every occasion; they scored some quality goals and they deserved to win."
