Algerian international Madjid Bougherra faces a three-week spell on the sidelines after he picked up a hamstring injury during Friday's training session with his club side Rangers.

The defender missed the Scottish Cup quarter-final against Dundee United because of the injury. Rangers were held to a 3-3 draw and will have another chance to qualify for the last four in a replay later this month.

Rangers' assistant coach, Ally McCoist, explained that Bougherra will be unavailable for at least three weeks as a result of the knock.

"He has a small tear in his hamstring and he will be out for a minimum of three weeks. He is one of our top players, one of the top players in the country, so it's a disappointment that he's not able to play for us," McCoist told reporters.

Even though the injury will come as a blow for Bougherra, the defender will be relieved to know that the hamstring tear won't affect his chances of making it to this summer's World Cup with Algeria.
