Arsenal interest flatters Lazio shot-stopper Fernando Muslera
Rome-based club set to offer new deal to young goalkeeper...
By Edward Pearce
The Gunners and fellow Premier League giants Manchester United were both reported to be monitoring the 23-year-old back in September, but it appears Wenger's side are showing the more sustained interest.
Muslera moved to Rome in 2007 as a highly rated young 'keeper and has since established himself as Lazio's number one, with his form this season feeding renewed rumours that he may be targeted by Europe's top clubs.
The player himself says he is pleased about the reports.
"It is important that a Premier League club like Arsenal have been monitoring my progress and it motivates me to play even better," he told Sky Sports.
The Uruguayan is sure to come under further scrutiny when he goes to the World Cup this summer with the South American side, but is reportedly close to signing a new four-year deal with Lazio, despite having two years left to run on his current contract.
