Sunderland manager Steve Bruce bemoaned the injury which forced goal scorer Kenwyne Jones to be replaced in his side's 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland dominated the first half with Jones at the heart of every attacking move by the home side, but was substituted at half time due to a groin injury, and Bruce believes that was the key factor in the match.

"The injury to Kenwyne affected us a lot, it's been the story of our season," Bruce told Sky Sports.

"The football Kenwyne has been playing in the last month is the best since I've came to the club, and now he looks to have a nasty injury. Big players are missing for us too much this season."

On the game itself, Bruce admitted that a draw was a fair result, and singled out Craig Gordon as the star performer after the Scot produced a string of good saves in the second half.

He added: "It's a fair result overall, but when you get so close to the end it's obviously disappointing.

"Craig produced some good saves in the second half, and we have now got four points in our last two matches, it's been a good week for us."
