Nemanja Vidic believes Manchester United will go from strength-to-strength now he has been reunited with Rio Ferdinand at the heart of defence.

The two centre-backs have had their share of injury problems this season, but have picked up two clean sheets in their two games together in the past week — against Wolverhampton Wanderers and AC Milan.

And after four years together, during which time the club won three titles, Vidic admits that his partnership with Ferdinand has become second nature.

"We understand each other," Vidic said, as reported by Press Association.

"We know all about each other. He knows how I will react in certain situations and it is the same the other way round.

"I know there is this feeling that I get all the knocks and Rio has the ball. But we both do both things and we can both be aggressive."

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson was quick to praise the two defenders, underlining their importance as United look to finish the season with domestic and European success.

"Having them back is fantastic for us," Ferguson said on Friday.

"They were both brilliant on Wednesday. It is definitely gives us a big chance because they bring us experience and consistency."

Vidic, who has already helped United to win the Carling Cup this season, hopes to win more trophies before the end of the campaign, but accepts it will not be easy.

"We won the league three years on the trot and have been in the final of the Champions League two seasons, so we knew this season was going to be more difficult," the Serbian said.

"It is difficult to keep yourself at the top. Yet we are still in the Champions League and we are top of the table. Hopefully we can keep going until the end."
