Manchester City's Carlos Tevez: We need to show the spirit we did during Chelsea win more often

City struggle against so-called weaker teams...

Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez wants Roberto Mancini's team to keep up to the standard of performance they showed in winning so comprehensively at Chelsea a fortnight ago.

Although results against the top sides have been good this season, the Citizens have sometimes struggled to hit the heights against more mundane opposition, and find themselves in a battle with Spurs, Liverpool and Villa for fourth spot.

With a trip to Sunderland ahead of them this weekend, Tevez insists that the side must show the same level of intensity against all of their opponents.

"Against the bigger teams we've been playing very well and we've had some great results, but with the so-called weaker teams we have not done so well - not necessarily because we have not played so well, but because the result has not gone our way," the Argentine told City's official website.

"The thing now is for us to make sure we keep calling on the spirit that we showed at Chelsea, and continue to play the way we are doing.

"We must show that same character and personality so that we can win the game at Sunderland and keep up our challenge for the fourth place."

Tevez has received plenty of plaudits for his own personal contribution to the City cause this campaign, but he brushed those off in favour of collective responsibility.

"Obviously it's important that I score goals, but I think it is more important for the group that the team plays well and continues to play well," he added.

"As for working hard, if I don't score, then I have to run after the ball and try to win it from the opposition. So that's a part of my game I have to concentrate on and try to do well."
