Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has revealed that he expects striker Gabby Agbonlahor to make a quick recovery from the virus which caused him to miss Sunday's FA Cup sixth round win over Reading.

The England international should be fully recovered in time for the Villans' away game at Stoke City at the weekend, despite missing training on Monday.

John Carew stepped into Agbonlahor's shoes for the game at Reading and scored a hat-trick at the Madejski Stadium.

"He [Agbonlahor] was pretty ill on Sunday. That was a real disappointment but fate sometimes is in other people's hands," O'Neill told Villa's official website.

"As it turns out, it was in John Carew's feet! Gabby missed training again on Monday but we are hoping it is just one of those 48 to 72 hour viruses.

"One of the physiotherapists, Stuart Walker, went down with something similar so I am hoping this isn't going to be spreading around the team for the weekend but we will see how it goes."
