Fit-again Phil Jagielka targets Europe for Everton
Defender hopes Toffees kick on after big weekend win...
By Alex Dimond
The defender returned to the starting lineup for the weekend's match against Hull City and, along with fellow long-term injury absentees Mikel Arteta and Victor Anichebe, ensured the Toffees ran out 5-1 winners.
"Myself, Mikel and Victor have all been out together for a while so it was nice to see us all start the game," the defender told the club's official website.
"It was also great for Mikel to get his goals and to see Victor play so well.
"I thought it was a decent performance against Hull and when the boys play like that in front of you and to the side of you it makes my job a lot easier."
Jagielka returned from his 10-month injury lay-off in the UEFA Cup defeat against Sporting Lisbon last month. And the 27-year-old is now determined to help the club qualify for European competition again come the end of the season.
"After the start to the season we had, our expectations have now grown and grown," he said.
"I think if we had the squad we have now back at the start of the season then we would have easily been up there in the European places right now so we just have to keep going."
Everton currently lie eighth in the Premier League table with 10 games left.
