Robinho has reportedly criticised Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini by questioning his managerial ability and claiming the Italian made him lose confidence by repeatedly substituting him.

After a frustrating season at Eastlands, the Brazilian international moved to former club Santos on loan where he has been back among the goals, scoring four times in six appearances.

However, according to the Guardian, Robinho has spoken out about his time under Mancini, claiming the former Inter manager did not instill him with confidence.

“At [Manchester] City, when I was playing, I knew that at some point the substitution board would go up and I was going to come off because the manager didn't have trust in me,” he explained.

“Then, you start to lose your confidence on the pitch.”

Robinho’s low point as a City player came in the 2-0 defeat to Everton back in January when the British record transfer, himself a substitute, was subsequently brought off by Mancini.

The Santos forward insisted the Italian has since told him he made a mistake in substituting him but criticised him for the decision

“I spoke to the manager after the game," Robinho said.

"He admitted to me that he had made a mistake taking me off. It was the first time I have had to go through something like that in my career but I suppose there's always a first time.

"It wasn't a lack of respect, though. I just think it was a lack of ability on the part of the manager."
