Everton manager David Moyes wants to extend Landon Donovan's deal at Goodison and is hopeful of reaching a deal.

The American forward is currently on loan from MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy, but his current arrangement expires after Sunday's game against Hull City.

Everton have already held talks about extending the deal, with the player reportedly wanting to stay.

"I am keen to keep Landon and it sounds initially in America that they might say yes," Moyes revealed at his press conference on Friday.

"I think Landon is keen to stay also so it looks as though all parties are keen. But I have not got that confirmed yet, I can't say exactly if that is going to happen. If we can make it happen we will."

The 27-year-old has been in impressive form since joining the club in the January transfer window, apart from a notable miss against Tottenham Hotspur in a 2-1 defeat last weekend.

"In the main he has done a really good job for us," Moyes said.

"It is very rare you can bring in someone in January on loan who can make a real difference to you but Landon has.

"Landon had to be thrown straight in so we had to find out very quickly if he could do a job or not.

"He came in when the team was on the up, so that has suited him, but we cannot deny he has done well."

With the MLS season soon to kick off, Moyes realises that Donovan's great form might actually make a deal harder to reach.

"I think his manager at LA Galaxy would say the best World Cup preparation for him would be to start in their team," he said.

"They will be keen to get him back so we will have to be respectful of their wishes.
"If we can keep him it would be nice but if not I totally understand it."

Another Everton player hopeful of being ready for the World Cup is Phil Jagielka. The defender has recently made a return to first team action, and Moyes believes it is not to late for him to get back into Fabio Capello's plans.

"I think if he gets back playing in the coming weeks he could [make the World Cup], I don't think it would be out of his reach," he said.

"But obviously he would need to really hit the ground running in the games and weeks coming."
