Sol Campbell placed the blame with referee Martin Hansson for Porto’s winner in Arsenal's side 2-1 defeat in Portugal.

The 35-year-old headed Arsenal level after goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski had bundled the ball into his own net inside the opening 10 minutes.

Porto took the lead in controversial fashion early in the second half when Campbell passed back to Fabianski who picked the ball up in his area.

Hansson correctly awarded a free kick inside the box for a pass back, which Porto took quickly and Falcao slotted the ball home before Arsenal could react.

“He’s about 20 yards away from the situation and then even after the free kick he was blocking me to get to the ball as well so a bit of a nightmare there,” said Campbell.

When asked if he though the referee got the decision wrong he said: “I think he did yeah, because he’s blocking me to get to the ball, so he’s basically just given them an advantage.”

The former England defender admitted that it was quick think by Porto but was still unhappy with the situation.

“Yeah it’s quick thinking, but if the referees in front of me then yeah of course it’s quick thinking, what can I do? Shove the ref out the way? I don’t know.

“I think you can go on and on about the game but I think the main thing is at least we got the goal and we’ve got them at home and hopefully we can get the right result."

Arsenal now have it all to do when Porto travel to the Emirates in three weeks time looking to hold on to their slender lead.
