Everton manager David Moyes has confirmed that midfielder Marouane Fellaini will miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury and is set to be out for around six months.

The Belgian was stretchered off after a red-card challenge from Liverpool’s Sotirios Kyrgiakos in the Merseyside derby at the beginning of February, which Everton went on to lose 1-0.

The ankle injury subsequently suffered by Fellaini requires surgery and means it is highly likely he will not play again this season.

"He's not good," Moyes told the club's official website.

"He's going to have an operation. He's got a similar injury to Robin van Persie and it's probably going to keep him out for six months."

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie damaged ankle ligaments whilst playing for Holland in an international friendly match in mid-November and is also expected to miss the remainder of the campaign.
