Everton manager David Moyes compared Marouane Fellaini's ankle injury to an elephant's foot, with the swelling preventing the midfielder from visiting a specialist.

Fellaini was absent from the club's 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Wednesday due to a robust challenge from Sotirios Kyrgiakos against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby last weekend.

The Toffees boss told the club's official website the Belgian's injury looked like an "elephant's ankle".

"We have put Fellaini's appointment back until the swelling goes down a bit more," he added.

"We don't want to speculate until then."

Spanish playmaker Mikel Arteta replaced Fellaini for the Blues clash, who had not featured for the club since the middle of last season.

Arteta said:
"It's been a really tough time, I have missed playing all games not just the big ones.

"And to have the chance to play - even though I know there is a lot to come - it was a great pleasure and I really appreciate the confidence from the manager."
