Blackburn Rovers took a step towards Premier League safety with a 1-0 win against Hull City at Ewood Park on Wednesday evening.

An own goal by Boaz Myhill in the first half was enough to secure Rovers a vital three points, while Hull's bad away form continues.

After the game, a delighted Sam Allardyce told Sky Sports: "In the cold light of day, [there was] not a clear cut chance for Hull City today, so [it was] a well earned victory. It should have been more comfortable but the three points is what we were looking for."

Allardyce has previously stated that the target for teams looking to avoid relegation from the Premier League is around 40 points - something which the victory over Hull has edged his team closer to.

He added: "For us it is 31 points now and ever closer to the magic 40 [points] and we'll see where we go from there."

Rovers now jump up to 11th place in the table, eight points above the drop zone.
