Barcelona have today refuted reports in Spain that they have concluded a deal to sign Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas in the summer.

A Spanish radio station had claimed that a deal was in place for the Catalan playmaker to return to his homeland in the summer.

However, Barcelona insist that no such negotations have taken place and that they are keen not to damage their excellent working relationship with the Gunners.

"Given the exceptional repercussions created by the stories that have appeared in different media with respect to an agreement with Arsenal FC player Cesc Fàbregas, FCB flatly denies that there have been any negotiations or agreements with the player," a statement on Barca's official website reads.

"In accordance with FIFA regulations, FC Barcelona’s contract policy has always made it a priority to negotiate with the club of origin before making any particular agreement with the player.

"FC Barcelona wishes to stress that it has always maintained excellent institutional relations with Arsenal FC."

The Castrol Rankings have Fabregas at No.31, ahead of both Xavi Hernandez (35) and Andres Iniesta (43) for his play over the past 12 months, even though the Barca duo led their club to an unprecedented clean sweep of honours.
