Portsmouth boss Avram Grant launched a blistering attack upon English referees, claiming that his side have been on the end of a series of poor decisions from the men in black over the last 10 days.

The Pompey gaffer was clearly fuming after his side’s dramatic 1-1 draw at home to Sunderland left the Fratton Park side five points adrift at the bottom of the Premier League.

The Israeli told Sky Sports: “We play against Manchester City - clear penalty for Danny Webber, no penalty. Then a goal from an offside and then a goal from foul.

"Then we went to Fulham, no penalty for us. The goal from Zamora was offside.

"Then today two clear penalties for us. In 10 days there have been too many mistakes against us. I think the referees have too much influence from what’s happened. They need to do their job like I need to do my job.

"It’s too easy to do it against us, it’s not the first time, it’s the third time in 10 days, I think we have to do something about it.”

Grant also criticised the Premier League, saying that they are not helping Pompey fight for survival.

“Imagine you, in your home or office with another problem and another problem you can lose confidence. So these players continue fighting, continue to show good football, we were the better side in the first half, it’s amazing.

"I cannot fight against all the world, we are trying to keep this club because it’s very unique to the city and the Premier League. I need to fight against selling and bring in good players. I need to fight because there are a lot of injuries. I need to fight with the Premier League that didn’t give me the chance to bring in players [in the January transfer window].”

But one group that the Portsmouth manager didn’t criticise was his team, instead praising the spirit shown by his side as they refused to give in and were ultimately rewarded with an injury-time equaliser.

“It was an amazing game, to start the game with a penalty and then a sending off," said Grant, in reference to the early red card shown to Ricardo Rocha. "What these boys are doing is an example to everybody to never give up and to always fight in any situation.”
