Adam Johnson relieved to have starred on home debut for Manchester City
Winger inspirational in 2-0 victory over Bolton...
By Steven Saunders
The winger, signed from Middlesbrough on deadline day for £7 million, earned a first-half penalty and was the stand-out performer throughout his first appearance at Eastlands in sky blue, which ended in a 2-0 victory for Roberto Mancini's side that moves them up to fifth in the Premier League table.
But the 22-year-old Johnson was quick to praise his team-mates for their part in helping him settle at City.
"There was a bit of pressure on me tonight with my home debut but I'm just delighted with my performance," said Johnson on Sky Sports. "I felt the team did well, it was a tough game, obviously with Bolton, the physical presence they have but I think we coped well.
"The players playing around me have made it easy. They're world-class players like Patrick [Vieira] and Carlos [Tevez], too many to name, but they've been fantastic from day one."
Vieira was also making his home debut following his January arrival from Internazionale, and contributed an assist for Emmanuel Adebayor's goal in the second half that clinched the 2-0 victory, following Tevez's conversion of the penalty in the first period.
"It felt alright - that was my first 90 minutes for quite a long time," said the French midfielder.
"There is still a long way to go [in the race for fourth]. All you can do is try and win game after game and see where we can go. I really believe that we are strong enough to finish in the top four."
