Ligue 1 : Marouane Chamakh (Bordeaux)
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez indicated today that he has admitted defeat in the race to sign Girondins Bordeaux forward Marouane Chamakh.

The Reds were one of a clutch of clubs linked with the highly-rated Moroccan international, whose contract with the Ligue 1 club expires in the summer.

That means that he is free to discuss pre-contract deals with other clubs, with Arsenal often reported as favourites to land the player.

It looks now though as if Liverpool have given up on the striker though, with the player's representatives said to be unhappy with the way contract negotiations have been handled.

"I do not think he [Chamakh] will come with us," said Benitez, according to The Liverpool Echo.

Although Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was evasive when asked about Chamakh today, it seems that the north Londoners remain favourites to land the forward.
