Patrica Evra believes Manchester United team-mate Wayne Rooney has matured into a more selfish player, and it is to the benefit of his side.

Rooney has lead the line for United this season with 23 goals for the Reds Devils, often as a lone striker, and has revelled in his new role.

Often keen to get involved with United's play as much as possible, the burden of grabbing the goals has forced the England forward to concentrate on his game in the box.

"Wayne understands what the team needs and we're seeing what a great player he is," said Evra in the Manchester Evening News.

"He is a world class player and is getting his just deserts because now he is more mature, he concentrates more on staying around the box.

"He's not lost any desire to still press the ball and things like that, but now he knows he needs to score a lot of goals because Ronny [Cristiano Ronaldo] has gone and he needs to score more.

"He's changed his mentality. Now he wants to score, he wants to be a killer and that is very important for us."
