Chelsea captain John Terry is keeping the wrong company - former England defender Graeme Le Saux
Stopper in need of sound advice, says former Chelsea man...
By David Middleton
Terry has been under an intense media spotlight for the past week after his alleged affair with former team-mate Wayne Bridge's girlfriend was uncovered.
Although he kept the backing of Chelsea chief Carlo Ancelotti, England manager Capello decided to release him from the skipper's responsibilities in the national team fold.
And former Blackburn Rovers and Chelsea defender Le Saux, who represented the 'Three Lions' on 36 occasions, has voiced his concern that the 29-year-old is being given the wrong advice.
“I do not believe the people around him [John Terry] are a good influence and some of the things that have come out about him should reflect badly on the people around him rather than on Terry himself,” Le Saux told the Telegraph.
“People have accused John of being greedy, of trying to exploit his status to make money. That does not fit with the man I know.
“I believe he has chosen the wrong group of people to take advice from. And like so many footballers, John needs good advice.”
Terry was back to business as usual last weekend when he scored the winning goal against Burnley, but Le Saux things the taunts from the terraces are not going to go away anytime soon.
He added: “He is going to be in for a hard time in the coming weeks and months. We have seen the way supporters have reacted to him and I suspect it's only going to get worse.
“I have been on the receiving end of sustained abuse myself and most players have to deal with it at some stage. But this is going to be much more intense.
“It's going to be tough but I'm sure John can handle it. He can take some comfort in the way everyone at Chelsea has rallied round him.
“Sure, everyone at the club will have their opinions on what has happened but they will keep them to themselves. Dressing rooms are pragmatic places; once something has been exposed, you just move on.”
