Carlton Cole issues rallying cry to fellow West Ham United strikers to 'start finishing'
England ace wants striking partner to fire Hammers to safety...
By David Middleton
The Hammers have managed to score just three goals in their last six fixtures, something which has seen Gianfranco Zola's men anchored in the bottom three of the Premier League.
However, England international Cole believes the club have the striking options to fire themselves to safety if they can start taking their chances and gelling as an offensive unit.
“The likes of Benni McCarthy, Mido and Ilan are great players that have come to join us [West Ham United] and Guille Franco is coming back as well, he is a great Mexican international,” Cole told the club's official website.
“I just want to form a great striking partnership with any of them. Hopefully I can keep on playing in the team and I am trying to get my fitness up and get back on a goalscoring run.”
Cole has scored seven times during 2009-10, but experienced only his first 90-minutes of action since mid-November in the 2-1 defeat at Burnley on Saturday.
Despite being blooded back slowly into first-team affairs, he's determined to help the Hammers get out of trouble.
He added: “I am bored of languishing at the bottom of the table. We don't deserve to be there. We should be higher up the table.
“We are creating chances and now it is time to start finishing. I am very disappointed.”
Cole, who totalled 12 goals last season, will be hoping to get back on the scoring trail when West Ham host Birmingham City in midweek, then face Hull City next weekend.
