Aston Villa's Nicky Shorey could be extending his Fulham stay beyond the end of the current campaign if manager Roy Hodgson gets his way.

The Cottagers boss brought the England international on loan during the January transfer window, but admits he's been so impressed with the full-back's performances that he wants to offer him a permanent deal.

“A price has been put on Nicky's [Shorey] head if, at the end of the loan period, he wants to stay and we certainly want to keep him,” Hodgson told Sky Sports News.

“He's a player we [Fulham] considered many times. When he was at Reading we were interested, but the price and wages he could command took him out of our reach and he went to Aston Villa.”

The 28-year-old, who appeared more the 250 times for Reading, joined Villa in August 2008. However, under Martin O'Neill, Shorey has been restricted to just six appearances this term and was loaned to Nottingham Forest in the Championship for three months from November.

However, Shorey has started brightly at Craven Cottage, helping Fulham to keep two clean sheets against Portsmouth and Bolton Wanderers in his first two run-outs and it's widely expected that he will call time on his career in the West Midlands next summer.
