Arsenal's Sol Campbell keeps the door open for England return
Defender ready to do his duty, if called on by country.
By David Kifford
The experienced defender dropped down to the bottom tier of league football to sign for Notts County earlier this season, but has since returned to the Premier League with former club Arsenal.
He believes that, after proving what he can do, he will be able to play with the world's best at this summer's World Cup in South Africa.
"I would love to play for my country again," he told Arsenal TV. "I wouldn't turn it down and say 'I'm going on holiday' or 'I'm getting married - see you later.
"I haven't thought about it [playing international football] but who'd want to turn it down?"
The thirty-five-year old has 73 caps for England but hasn't turned out for the national side since the failed Euro 2008 qualifying campaign and has never been selected by current England manager Fabio Capello.
However this doesn't appear to phase Campbell who added: "I've got to work hard, keep focused and if the opportunity comes along I'll take it. There's a lot of work to be done, it will come down to one man's decision."
If Campbell does make Capello's World Cup squad it will be his seventh major tournament for his country.
