Sam Allardyce bemoans refereeing decisions in Blackburn's defeat to Stoke City
Big Sam unhappy over key incidents involving Christopher Samba...
By Steven Saunders
Allardyce pinpointed an incident in the first half when, with Stoke leading 1-0, Christopher Samba's goalbound header was cleared off the line by Dean Whitehead.
The Blackburn manager was adamant that Whitehead had used an arm in doing so, and believes the outcome of the game could have been markedly different if that decision had gone in his side's favour.
"That's two weeks in a row now that there's been a handball on the line and it's going in otherwise," Allardyce told Sky Sports. "This one is going in off Chris Samba's header and is deflected wide, the referee [Steve Bennett] hasn't seen it.
"That penalty means does he get sent off, do we score the penalty to make it 1-1, are they down to 10 men rather than us? So that's a big, big decision that's gone against us."
Allardyce was also frustrated by the first booking picked up by Samba for an altercation with Ryan Shawcross at a corner in the first half, for which the Stoke man also received a booking.
The Blackburn boss cited an example from Stoke's last game against Sunderland - also involving Shawcross - that went unpunished and questioned why the incidents were treated differently.
He added: "I can't understand why Chris Samba gets sent off. I don't know why he gets booked in the first place. I don't know what the rules are anymore.
"I saw a game on Monday night and an incident with Shawcross and the [Sunderland] centre forward and Howard Webb took no action then. Today they both get booked and it leads to Chris Samba getting sent off.
"Effectively then from our point of view, 2-0 down and with 10 men, it's going to be very difficult to get back."
