After watching his Portsmouth side concede five goals at the hands of Manchester United, manager Avram Grant was philosophical about the challenge faced in attempting to stay in the Premier League.

“It is a big challenge [at the moment],” he told Sky Sports.

“It is difficult for the club and it was difficult on the pitch [today].

“In the first 40 minutes we had two big chances, they [Manchester United] had one chance.”

Despite defeat Grant looked ahead to future matches.

He added: “This is not the game to get points from, there are more important games [coming up]."

With the score at 0-0, Portsmouth had a great chance to take the lead when Nadir Belhadj’s strike was cleared off the line by Johnny Evans. The Israeli acknowledged the importance of that incident.

He continued: “It was a crucial moment.

“Van der Sar [also] made a good save from Anthony Vanden Borre.

“A goal there and it could have all been different.”
