World Cup 2010: Italy coach Marcello Lippi rules out Amauri selection
The Azzurri tactician is musing on his last few choices for the World Cup squad...
By Anthony Wright
The tactician confirmed earlier reports suggesting that he has already selected the majority of his squad, before revealing that the 'oriundi' candidates, such as Amauri or Rodrigo Taddei, were not under consideration.
"There are five or six spots left for the national team," Lippi explained to Italian news agency ANSA.
"I am missing six names to complete a group that will have a variety of characteristics.
"In May, I will choose those who are in the best condition - today every player is under observation. The oriundi, honestly, a little less - there are enough Italian players."
While the national coach's latest revelations appear to have put the matter beyond doubt, Amauri's chances of going to South Africa with the Italian squad have not been aided by his form with Juventus this season. The striker will hope to find the scoresheet when the Bianconeri face Livorno on Saturday night.
