World Cup 2010: Luca Toni will not take my Italy place - Alberto Gilardino
Gilardino warns the fight for places will be tough...
By Salvatore Landolina
Gilardino is determined to do all he can to keep the Roma striker at bay, and is confident he will be successful in his attempts.
"Dear Luca [Toni], you don't scare me," he told Il Messaggero.
"It's normal for a player like Luca to aim for the protagonist's role. I have an excellent relationship with him and we have both scored 16 goals for La Nazionale, but he doesn't scare me.
"I will do everything I can with Fiorentina in these few months and it's normal for me to aim for a main role at the World Cup."
Fiorentina welcome Roma in the Serie A on Sunday, and Gilardino admits it will not be an easy game.
"They [Roma] have enjoyed a positive run of results after changing coaches and they are in good shape physically.
"It will be a combative match, as they are probably the most in form team in Serie A, but we are ready for them."
